One Quirk Later #9 || 2022

 hello hello hello

Coming back here always makes me feel... nostalgic, I guess? I was but a tiny child when I began (...actually, how old was I?? I think... must have been nineteen? feels like I was a lot younger) and there are so many memories here.

...Of course, if I would stop leAVING UNEXPECTEDLY, my blog wouldn't feel like it was full of long-past ghosts.

Huh. That's a thought.

But you didn't come here for my 3am-style questioning of identity and self. Thus, a Quirk.

*brushes nostalgia ghosts into a corner*  unless, of course, I decide the prompt calls for ghosts?? 👀

Pinterest pinterest pinterest yEAH

I have a few thoughts for this prompt. Sha'n't give anything away, because I have no idea if I'll go in a completely different direction, but if you've read my previous Quirk pieces, you'll have a bit of an idea on what kind of feel to expect.

Predictable? me? eh probably.

But the bigger question here is... what are your thoughts for this Quirk prompt? Everyone who participates always does amazing pieces which I gobble and I really hope some interesting-coloured plot bunny has stretched itself out in your head like "...why hello there."

To join in with this madness:

  1. Write whatever this picture prompt inspires you to!
  2. Post it on your blog!
  3. Link back to this post—and there's a link-up image, too, if you'd like to use that.
  4. Comment on one of my posts so I can come and read your amazing writing!!
  5. And I'll drop links to everyone's stories in the next post. (:

On the last Saturday of January, I will post my Quirk in response to this prompt. But you can use any Quirk prompt at any time! Just let me know if you do, so I can come and read it and squeal. 💛

Now, with that over, how's life? Is 2022 looking good for you so far? Has anything exciting come up? New opportunities? Have you made any changes in your life?

I've never done resolutions, myself, but I'm trying to exercise more gotta be fit ready for when I become the protagonist  jk protagonist sounds like an awful role ahahaaa. And I've put together a little diary of birthdays and other personal moments which I'm hoping to use to get letters/presents/etc to people on time, and figure out days when we can catch up.

I'm not organised, okay. But I want to be a better friend and not! keep falling out of touch!

...much like with this blog, actually.

Oh no, it's the 3am-style questioning of self again.

Annnnyway.

I hope you're all well? And that, if you have work, it's work you enjoy and you can balance it with life! And that you have people around you who are warm and comfortable! And that you are hopeful for the future!

...of course, I also hope you're blocking out time in which to write a Quirk. 👀

I require your Quirks to munch on, you understand. Feeeeed me. feed me feels. I desire them.

What have you been up to? What brain cells does this Quirk spark? What songs have been consuming your listening time at the moment?

And what is with me asking questions in threes, like some wizened old lady crouched behind a tree cackling at you? Let's be honest, we all know I'm not fairy tale princess material, but I like to think I'd be pretty good at some other aspects of a fairy tale

Such as cackling.

It has nothing to do with the Quirk, but which side character would you be in a fairy tale, I need to know.

  1. Hi Jem!!! (I am a fan. What with quirks and the Silmaril awards and such. :) )

(Do you know which type of cake the owl likes best? I have a variety. :) )

I don't have a blog yet, but I'd love to join in when I do! (And I love that frog-with-a-hat-in-a-watering-can, it's so... unique.)

Have a lovely time writing your prompt!

    1. Hi Faramir!! Thank you for your kind words and for stopping by my (sporadically-manned) corner of the internet!

The owl eats a lot of chocolate zucchini cake, but he is anxious to try as many varieties as possible... ;)

    2. The owl has good choice. I like zucchini chocolate cake, too! (Or, at least, chocolate zucchini bread, but that's nearly the same thing.)

  3. Jem! *tackle hug* It's good to have you back! I'm so excited to both write this Quirk myself, and see what you come up with! :)

Hm. I would probably be an old lady in a fairy-tale, too. I'm famous within my family for cooing over young couples like their grandma ("they're so cute! I just want to pinch their cheeks! they're so young! [when both are around 10 years older than me], so. I think I'd be a friendly one, though.

    2. *collapses under tackle hug despite my sister's training* It's so nice to talk to you again! and bwahaha the picture of you cooing over couples despite their age is so pure xD (I'd say it's a mood, but my sister might call me out on it as I've discovered that I can only handle so much sweet before I turn a bit crotchety xD) You can be the sweet old lady and I'll be a crotchety one (gingerbread house not included... xD)

Thank you for sharing your Quirk!! <3

  4. JEM! my friend! I am so pleased to hear your cackling voice that I am using entirely too many exclamation marks!!!
I have no idea what I am going to do for this Quirk but I WILL DO SOMETHING. I could not bear not to participate because it would not do at all for you to starve. I promise to give you something to munch on by and by.
Life is weird, I mean, we just did a major stage musical and almost died but it was amazing, and then right after Christmas my youngest sister got engaged and WHAT IS THIS MADNESS? I am super happy for her but when did she get old enough to get engaged?! I am still in shock.
So many songs have been consuming the listening time, let me tell you. Lots of Josh Garrels and The Arcadian Wild. Also I am slightly obsessed with "My Love Has Gone Across the Sea" by Andrew Peterson right now because I just read The Monster in the Hollows and in that context the song makes me weep. Anyway. Music. I love music.
I would totally be an old lady in a fairy tale. I really would. Either that or...yeah, no, just that.
I am so excited to come up with something for the Quirk!

    1. Professor, how did you know I was cackling at that very moment?? can you read my- wait, never mind.

Ooh, what was the musical? And wow, congratulations to your youngest sister!! That's big news but also vERY disconcerting; as an older sister, I feel this deeply (and fully expect to be having an equivalent mental breakdown within like. six months.) Younger siblings are never old enough for this, what even, when did this happen.

Arcadian Wild has crossed my listening queue before, but I really need to hunt them down again! And look up Andrew Peterson's music, because that song + book context sounds like quite a story.

...apparently we are all the old lady, this story will be well-populated with them x'D

    2. The musical we did was Jane Eyre. I was skeptical that Jane Eyre could work as a musical when I first heard of it, but it DOES work. And we made it work, despite the fact that we bit off a tad more than we could chew.;)

  5. YAY JEM! *runs around in circles squawking* It brings me joy to see you (...hear from you? read the words of your brain??) and the new quirk :)Oooh, I like this prompt. Do I have any idea what to write about? Nope. But I LIKE IT. I like it a lot. Hopefully the plot bunnies will rise to the occasion.

    2. ALL FEAR THE PLOT BUNNIES

It's so nice to be here again talking (writing??) to you, Erik! It makes me want to learn time management so I can visit with you all more often xD I'm glad my prompt could stir up your plot bunnies, and I look forward to reading your Quirk! *munches happily*

  6. JEM. It is good to see you. You are kind of like Gandalf, really, leaving unexpectedly for nine years, coming back (always to the great joy of your hobbit friends) unexpectedly, maybe staying for three weeks this time oh how nice I wonder if - oh, nope, off again, guess we'll see him again in fifteen weeks to fifteen years.

Which is sort of a fun vibe to have, really.

Also I am SO EXCITED to see yours (and other people's) quirks and here is mine: https://sarahseele.wordpress.com/2022/01/24/one-quirk-later-the-trials-of-alfonso-a-much-tried-toad/
'Tis an odd little creature, but I had SO much fun writing it, so thanks!

Also...I like to think I'd be that friend of the protagonist that none of the bad guys paid any attention to, who ends up slipping him that one thing he needs to escape and save the day? I am getting progressively more like the crone though, as I slip further into (my own, special, version of) adulthood, not gonna lie.

    1. That is so extremely kind of you to say, Sarah, and I will gladly (if slightly abashed) accept the fun vibe of "Gandalf who is, let's face it, unreliable, but we're happy to see him when he turns up" x'D

Ooh, just the fact that he's called Alfonso is cracking me up, so I can't wait to read your Quirk!! I'm glad you had fun writing it <3

Ahh, so you'd be a useful character either way! Overlooked best friend who has the solution is an admirable role, but crones area also good (I say, completely unbiased) because they can cut straight through plot waffling and such and get straight to the point like "do you tHINK this talking item has your best interests at heart? no? well then chuck it?? cost for this advice is your soul, your firstborn, or your sandwich that you're holding right now - ooh sandwich, nice"

  9. I wrote something!! I'm so glad to see you back from hiatus! I can't say for sure who I'd be in a fairy tale, but I LIKE to think that I'd be the Baba Yaga in the story. I too just want to live alone in the woods with my house that has chicken legs.
