ideas from Pinterest || theme: EXPLOSIONS

My "ideas from Pinterest" posts have been pretty fun to write. So far there's been:

"Snarky dialogue" is the obvious next step. I'll think about it.

But today - as promised - it's explosions. Coupled with a fair bit of snark.

And in the vein of this theme, let us start with Tony Snark + explosions.

I'm sorry, did I typo and write Tony Snark??
That was obviously an accident

"Technically, it wasn't on fire."
"Of COURSE it wasn't on fire! You completely blew it up!"

"It's only on fire a little bit. You can still use it."

"I said finesse. Do you happen to know the definition of finesse?"

"I'm looking for a place to crash. Mine blew up."

"Do you even know how to drive this thing?"
"Normally I'd lie and say yes, but considering the fact that I almost flew us into that building, I'm going to assume you know the answer."

"Some gifts are better left unopened. I'm particularly referring to the ones that explode."

"The phrase 'Ignore it and it will go away' does not apply to being chased by a dozen cop cars. Trust me on this one."

"I don't go looking for trouble. I just enjoy befriending it."

"...and then I set the fire."
"No."
"But-"
"No fires."
"But my plan is awesome."
[Third character:]"Since when have we accepted pyromaniacs onto this team?"

"Give me one good reason why I should buy you a cart full of fireworks."

"We can't have a crisis! My schedule is already full."

"In my defense, I was left unsupervised."

"So what're you up to?"
"Nothin' dangerous, if that's what you're asking."
"...Our definitions of dangerous must be sliiightly different."

"The results of an explosion are often very curious."

"Small fire! I said to set a small fire! This is not small!"

"Burning a bridge takes too long. I prefer explosives."

For some reason I can NOT find a gif which includes the explosion??
Which is super annoying because I need it for my life.

*****

Okay, so not all of these were specifically about explosions? but you can make them about explosions. And that's all that matters, really.

Do you write about explosions? Do you have suggestions for themes for my next Pinterest ideas posts? Do you write posts at eleven at night? because I don't recommend it

Talk to me about anything! including the fact that apparently Iron Man's arc reactor is triangular in this suit?? I did not know that.

  1. I'm seeing first line potential here XD this was awesome, Jem. Love it.

  2. OMG MARVEL. OMG THE AVENGERS. OMG TONY STARK.

I do like reading about explosions (until they become too chaotic and the character blacks out or something like that)! But I don't write them. I'd love to see you do a Pinterest idea post on something creepy, like those rabbit heads in the forest or levitating girls on snow!

    Nice snippet, Jem!

    1. Yess! *Marvel fangirl high-five*

I actually haven't written any explosions either? maybe one day. Ooh - I haven't written much [anything!] creepy, but that's an idea!

      Thanks for reading, Andrea!

  3. Are these your dialogues because they are hilarious. Everyone needs snark in their books. This post is awesome.
Is there a way I can follow your blog, or do you not have the follower's gadget on purpose?
    God bless you!

    1. These are prompts/etc which I (as a Pinterest Expert) have carefully curated from that most marvelous time-waster of websites, Pinterest. For your convenience. ;P

WHAT. NO. I've just checked using Chrome (I use Firefox when blogging) and mY ENTIRE LEFT COLUMN OF GADGETS IS MISSING?! I don't know what to do about that! *shrieks and flails* Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Ivie!

    2. I noticed they are gone...and kinda figured you were doing some site construction or something. lol
      But yeah, they're gone.

    3. Do you have any idea when the sidebar disappeared?? Because it's showing fine on Firefox (at least for me), I have no idea when it happened - and therefore what might have caused it! *dies*

  4. You forgot Studio C's line in Two Guys on a Scooter. "Five guys on a scooter... WITH EXPLOSIONS!!!"

But yes, I've written a heartbreaking explosion scene. I almost cried while writing it, which is saying a lot.

    1. I'm not really into studio c, but that one was hilarious.

    2. Ah yes. I did forget that one, didn't I? ;P I love how they drove away in slow motion with the explosion behind them - I guess playing with tropes is what produces humour!

My take on the 'explosion' theme was more of a snarky one? but now I think about it, 'heartbreaking' would certainly work too, Sarah! (Did someone die??) :(

    3. (Sorry, Sarah, I slipped and accidentally deleted your comment when I was trying to click Publish...)

Lots of someones died?? *gasp* Are you one of the writers who kill characters off regularly? I confess, the only characters I usually kill are the parents of the MC... because I struggle with orphan MCs...

    4. I only kill characters off if it's pivotal to the plot.

    5. AHH....I instantly thought of that Studio C video too!!! (Sarah, this is all your fault!)

    6. I think it's probably a bad habit to kill off characters unnecessarily, so it's good to hear you only kill them when it's needed ;)

  5. EXPLOSIONS!!! You have to love a good explosion and some fire (so long as everyone is okay). This was really fun to read through! :D

    1. That's true, Melissa - I don't have the heart to write explosions that actually hurt people! I'm glad you enjoyed the post :)

  6. AHHHH YES YES. I love explosions probably an unhealthy amount. XD ALL OF THESE WERE SO GOOD.

    1. Love of explosions = #11 on the list of things that would be really weird if we weren't writers xD I'm so pleased you enjoyed it, Jane!

  7. While writing: 'I love explosions!'
While watching Rogue One: 'I don't love explosions...'
    While reading this: '...Explosions, yes!'

I think I prefer explosions in books, and I've probably written more than my fair share.

    1. I haven't seen Rogue One, but I've heard it's not kind to the feels :(

Explosions in books seem a little more - distanced, for some reason? (At least, I was fine with writing this post, but when I looked for pictures, I suddenly thought about the damage explosions actually cause...)

That sounds cool, though, Blue! What genre[s] do you tend to write?

    2. That kind of makes sense. You rely on your imagination, and then you have the option of not seeing certain things.

I like to write whatever I can, whenever I can! (but I tend to lean towards anything that can include an explosion or dragon...or both)

    3. Explosions and/or dragons sound like marks of an excellent piece of writing. xD

  8. I love explosions! I swear I ALWAYS fit an explosion into every book even my contemporaries which....I probably shouldn't do. 😂 And I'm aware it's incredibly cliche to do the explosion with the hero walking away epically without looking back, BUT IT'S SO FUN AND EPIC TO WRITE.😂

    1. No, but that can be your writing style, Cait! (Actually, from snippets I've read, explosions seem to fit your writing style very well... ;P) People can say 'ooh look here's a new cait book! I wonder where she put the explosion this time!' xD

  9. Don't have much explosions in my current WIP. Maybe that should change...

Though I did have a cavern collapsing in Rauladin. *cues evil laugh*

And don't even get me starting on the Biern explosions in the Heritage of Kings series and the follow up Char Ne Rayft (series on the ancient history of the land). Those...they make my cry, tbh. How could I have done such a thing to everyone?!

    1. I guess you don't need lots of explosions... especially if you make everyone cry when you do! Those all seem like excellent examples of necessary explosions, though, Julian... those stories sound interesting!

  10. This was so much fun to read! So much sass and explosions compiled into one post. Perfect. I especially love those pyromaniac characters who are so wide-eyed and innocent and earnestly wanting to blow everything up because why not?
(By the way the OWL! The Big-eyed Owl is so ADORABLE)

    1. Pyromaniac characters - yes! "It's only on fire a little bit!" xD

The first one is by far my favorite!! (And I'm super excite because I finished my novel and am now outlining a MUCH more lighthearted, fun story with a huuuuuuge cast of naughty teenage boys... Muahahahahaaaa!!)

    1. If you have a huge cast of naughty teenage boys... you'll be needing some explosions, then?? xD
